Originally from Connecticut, Lauren Shea found Fisher College on a walk with her parents. Since that drop-in visit, Lauren has earned an Associate’s degree in Fashion Merchandising and will graduate in May with a Bachelor’s in Marketing; Lauren founded the Drama Club and served as President of the Student Government Association for two years.

FT:What three words would you use to describe Fisher College?

LS: First, I would say Fisher’s diversity is its best attribute. Second, I’ve always felt the sense of community here. Last, Fisher is in the process of growth, which excites all the students.

FT: How would you describe your Fisher experience?

LS: The faculty know what they teach because they teach from experience. They want creativity and are innovative in the classroom. There were more discussions than lectures so we would learn from each other.

FT: In what way has the College’s diversity been of value?

LS: It is the reason I’ve learned so much here. Learning about others, their way of life, their culture…stereotypes go out the window. A principle of marketing is to find a common thread among your audience, so I’ve come to understand people.

FT: When you think about your time at Fisher, what are you proudest of ?

LS: My main goal has been to bridge the gap between students and the administration. President Perkins has been great. I’ve worked hard to increase student involvement and have students feel deeper pride in Fisher.

FT: What are your postgraduation plans?

LS: For now, I’m going to concentrate on public relations, probably in New York. I’m thinking about getting my Master’s in journalism and maybe work for a magazine. Or maybe I’ll work in marketing at a fashion firm. I’m really passionate about acting and I hope to perform with a community theater. There are just so many doors…

FT: What do you wish for Fisher College after you graduate?

LS: I think about this a lot…I’ve invested so much during my time here. Fisher will always be a part of my life. I look forward to watching Fisher expand through better facilities, more choices, and more involved students. The bar is being raised.
